Thunderbay

Qualifications

Our Thunder Bay DriveWise team has a combined driver education experience of over 65 years. Every instructor received their initial training at the leading training facility in the country. Even though the province of Ontario only requires instructors to be trained once and are able to maintain their licence for life, our instructors have completed annual training and recertification since their initial course. This training has included; maintaining control with another driver behind the wheel, adverse weather driving, emergency maneuvers, customer service, defensive driving, etc..

As a part of the Driver Rehabiliation Program at the St. Joseph's Care Group for the past 12 years, we have the experience to train clients that have needs for adaptive vehicle controls.  We are the only driver training facility in NorthWestern Ontario to have a training vehicle equipped with hand controls (gas/brake), left foot gas pedal and other controls to adapt to our clients needs. We work closely with doctors, occupational therapists and medical equipment suppliers to provide this needed and important service.

We are proud to have contributed to the studies of older drivers performed by Michel Bedard, Ph.D.-Public Health, Lakehead University. We are grateful for the opportunity to have worked on two past studies - we are excited about our future with this work and effort to improve the tools for older drivers to maintain their licence as long as safely possible.

Members of our team are qualified to provide the Canada Safety Council -

Professional Driver Improvement Course,

Defensive Driving Course and the Driver Improvement Course.

(When you have too many demerit points and you receive a letter from the MTO stating that you have to attend an approved Driver Improvement Course - this Canada Safety Council course meets the MTO requirements and we are the only facility in Thunder Bay to have qualified staff to provide it.)

WE ARE PROUD OF OUR STAFF AND OUR QUALIFICATIONS - LET US DO THE TRAINING.
